Adulthood
“I don’t have as much energy as I'd like to. I think most people feel that at 40, but I feel it more.”
- Marvin, adult patient
Non-cardiac comorbidities are increasingly common in adulthood for single-ventricle CHD patients, and that is due mainly to the extended lifespans afforded patients by new medical treatments. They come as a surprise to many people who have to adjust their work, hobbies and lifestyles due to a decreased physical capacity. It is important to develop screening programs and treatment for comorbidities with emphasis on disease prevention, quality of life improvements and socio-psychological care.
